The skin is the largest organ of the body and surprising to some people is considered part of the immune system. That being said, sometimes our skin fails us and can become infected by bacteria, fungus and parasites that reside in the world around us. Skin infections can be characterized by pain, drainage of pus and even fever. It is important to see a dermatologist to treat and diagnose your skin infection. Left untreated skin infections can worsen and spread to the blood stream.
