Face Mask skin care
Times have changed, and whether we want to or not we have to wear face masks to certain places that we go. Face masks are saving lives so here are a few tips on wearing one properly so that it does not damage your skin:
Always have clean, dry skin underneath. Putting a mask on skin that is moist or dirty can lead to occlusion acne or broken skin.
If you tend to get acne, put a benzoyl peroxide cream or sulfur lotion on before placing your mask on so that it does not cause you any acne.
Take breaks from the mask when possible, to cleanse and dry your skin to avoid injury
If you care unable to remove your mask, try using a hydrocolloid dressing (duo derm thin or band aid aquagel) on areas where the mask can damage the skin like the nose, chin and cheeks
Assure that the mask fits properly. If it is too small, it can cause blistering and broken skin. If it is too large, then it is not protecting you.
Hopefully the days of masks are limited as science pulls ahead with new treatments and preventative medicine for coronavirus. These are a few tips to help you along your way. In addition, if you are struggling with face mask skin care, feel free to make an appointment to us here at Luxe Dermatology.
